JOOLA Computer Ranking List

©: System Hill/Franzel - Version of 01.01.1999

The JOOLA Ranking List contains only German players. However, it also includes matches of German players against foreign players.

The playing strength of a player is defined by two components:

  • the average playing strength of the opponent
  • the sum of the player’s previous achievements .

The individually considered events (at championships also dependent on the round) are variably assessed according to their rating. The higher the event or the advancement to the next round at championchips is rated, the more points are accordingly determined.

The playing strength of an opponent is usually via the computer ranking list. This also applies for foreign players who are not represented in the European or World Ranking List, but are playing in any German League, as their playing strength is determined as well.

The JOOLA computer ranking list contains detailed game records showing each match of the players listed.

In the JOOLA ranking list results of the last 12 months are covered and permanently held on the database. Old results are automatically deleted. It is guaranteed that results of annually held events will be kept in the database until the new results are entered.

For entry into the JOOLA ranking list the player must be able to show at least one result of one of a.m. events. For classification at least 15 results have to be available and at least 5 of them have to be rated.

Importance of the Individual Events

A certain value, which is included in the rating of the results, is assigned to each event dependening on its designated importance.

Where championships are involved this value is increased progressively by round.

For example:

D-12 and J-12
Abbrev.Round   Rating

G Group   1.060
8 Quarterfinal   1.080
4 Semifinal   1.110

Exclusion of Matches from Rating

The following matches are not included in the JOOLA ranking list:

- Wins over extremely weak opponents, if this result would lead to a reduction
of the winner’s playing strength factor.
- Defeats against extremely stronger opponents, if this result would lead to an increase of the looser’s playing strength factor.

Deduction of Playing Strength

According to the playing strength each player must present a certain number of results. If that does not occur, the playing strength factor will be reduced as the rated playing strength must be considered as insufficient. Players can not take advantage of playing in selected events and it shall be ensured that only players who have adequately prooven their playing strength will receive a high playing strength rating.
